Shastri Sahitya is a traditional Sanskrit degree focused on Sanskrit literature. You read classical Sanskrit works and study the language and its grammar. Some universities treat the Shastri as equal to a BA.
For CUET UG 2026, 4 central universities list Shastri Sahitya: BHU, CSU, NSU and SLBSNSU. The paper most often asked is Sanskrit. BHU and SLBSNSU ask for Sanskrit (paper 325). CSU accepts Sanskrit or Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India as the domain paper. NSU asks for any one language paper and any one domain paper, and gives preference to candidates with the Sanskrit paper. Other papers such as English, Hindi, Accountancy and Agriculture appear because NSU lets you choose any language paper and any domain paper.
Eligibility often uses traditional qualifications such as Prakshastri, Uttar Madhyama or Madhyama. A regular 10+2 is also accepted at several of them. BHU sets an age limit of 22 years on 1 July 2026, and SLBSNSU sets a maximum of 25 years. If you are planning for this course, make sure Sanskrit is one of your CUET papers.
